Russia Affirms Support for Venezuela

(MENAFN) The Russian Foreign Ministry on Thursday reaffirmed its backing of Venezuela, highlighting its ongoing stance in favor of restoring dialogue between Washington, DC, and Caracas.

In an official statement, the ministry called on all involved parties to undertake measures aimed at reducing tensions.

"Russia consistently advocates for the normalization of dialogue between Washington and Caracas. We are convinced that steps are needed to de-escalate the situation and find solutions to existing problems and differences in a constructive manner, with respect for international legal norms," the statement declared.

The ministry also stressed that Latin America and the Caribbean should continue to be a region of peace, allowing nations within the area to grow steadily and autonomously.

"We reaffirm our solidarity with the Venezuelan people in the face of trials they are experiencing, as well as our support for the course pursued by the (President) Nicolas Maduro government aimed at defending national interests and the sovereignty of the homeland," it added.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump revealed on Tuesday a total blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers en route to and from Venezuela.

Trump warned of unprecedented repercussions for Venezuela, insisting that Caracas return allegedly "stolen" oil, land, and other assets belonging to the US.
