Trump Reportedly Issued Maduro Departure Ultimatum

(MENAFN) According to a media outlet, US President Donald Trump delivered a stern ultimatum to his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolas Maduro, urging him to flee the country last month following several weeks of mounting military pressure and lethal assaults on vessels.

The outlet, citing undisclosed sources, stated that this communication occurred on November 21, just prior to the Trump administration labeling Cartel de los Soles as a terrorist entity—an organization they assert is led by Maduro and accuse of smuggling narcotics into the US.

Caracas refuted these accusations, asserting that Washington is orchestrating a regime-change initiative aimed at commandeering Venezuela’s extensive natural resources.

As relayed by the media outlet, Maduro conveyed to Trump that he would be prepared to depart Venezuela on the condition that he and his family receive amnesty from all US sanctions, and that a case against him in the International Criminal Court be terminated.

He additionally sought the lifting of penalties imposed on over 100 Venezuelan officials, and proposed that Vice President Delcy Rodriguez oversee a provisional administration until fresh elections could be arranged, the agency reported.

Trump allegedly dismissed the majority of these demands during the approximately 15-minute discussion, asserting that Maduro and his family had one week to exit Venezuela.

When the deadline passed on Friday, Trump declared the nation’s airspace closed, the outlet wrote.
