Venezuela Says U.S. Intelligence Flights Near Borders Provoke War
“Every day in September, and last night, intelligence aircraft and tankers were refueling in the air. Intelligence and reconnaissance operations against Venezuela tripled in August,” he stated.
While acknowledging the US collects its own intelligence, Padrino Lopez asserted Venezuela is simultaneously conducting its own internal intelligence efforts. He warned of a firm Venezuelan response: “We are prepared and can intervene in each flight individually or collectively; we know what they are doing. We know that their deployments in the Caribbean carry the intention of provoking war.”
The minister expressed worries about the risk of air accidents caused by US flights, highlighting the issue of unreported flight plans. Domestically, Padrino Lopez confirmed that nationwide military training for militia forces is ongoing under President Nicolas Maduro’s orders, with the goal of ensuring preparedness against any potential US aggression. He noted that training sessions would take place every Saturday to keep the militias consistently ready.
This development follows US President Donald Trump’s executive order to intensify military efforts against Latin American drug cartels, which coincided with the deployment of three Navy destroyers—the USS Gravely, USS Jason Dunham, and USS Sampson—off Venezuela’s coast in late August.
In response, Maduro claimed he has mobilized 4.5 million militia members, prepared to defend the nation against any attack. Meanwhile, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth declared the US military is ready for a regime change operation in Venezuela.
